Bin - A separation (such as a pigeonhole) on the sweepside of a letter sorting machine or similar mechanized or automated mail distribution equipment. (Formerly called pocket.)

(1) [data analysis] In a variogram map, each cell that groups lags with similar distance and direction. Bins are commonly formed by dividing the sample area into a grid of cells or sectors, and are used to calculate the empirical semivariogram for kriging.
