Just-in-Time (JIT) - definitions

Just-in-Time (JIT) - An approach to activities or processes or reports where they take place only when requested. This approach is in contrast to Just in Case, where activities or processes or reports are created in the anticipation that someone may need them.

Just-In-Time - one of the two main pillars of TPS. It refers to the manufacturing and conveyance of only what is needed, when it is needed, and in the amount needed. It is built upon three basic principles: the pull system, continuous flow processing and takt time.
