OpenGIS Specification - An open software standard developed and adopted in OGC`s open consensus process that enables interoperable geoprocessing, which includes: real-time data sharing and process execution between GIS systems from different vendors; interoperation between dissimilar types of geoprocessing systems (GIS, Earth imaging, surveying and mapping, navigation, etc.); and efficient discovery of and access to remote geodata and geoprocessing resources in distributed computing environments.
