Global Sourcebook for Name and Address Data Management - new version released!

A new version of The Global Sourcebook for Name and Address Data Management has been released today, 3rd November 2009.

We have put an enormous amount of work into creating more content (now over 1500 pages) and making the resource more accessible than ever before – if you haven’t updated your version for a while it’s worth checking for the main changes at http://www.grcdi.nl/book2.htm . We’re working to make the Global Sourcebook, more than ever, the only resource you’ll need for your international data management information.

Highlights of this version are:

The book is now available also as a web resource, updated approximately weekly and at no extra cost, so you get your information almost as soon as we add it to the book!

We have added a lot more information about postal codes, and included regular expressions for validating codes. Cutting and pasting these expressions into your own programs can greatly reduce the time you need to write any postal code validation routines.

We’ve added a new chapter about web form layouts, with layouts shown for each country – use the templates to design address entry forms that suit the formats of the country of your customer!

We’ve continued to update all the country information, with new lists, additional facts and extra photographs and maps.

Read about the many changes in this version at http://www.grcdi.nl/book09_2.htm , and at http://www.grcdi.nl/book2.htm , where you can view a 3 minute video overview of the Global Sourcebook. I hope you enjoy the new Global Sourcebook – you can order your update online at http://www.grcdi.nl/shop/ - and please let us know of anything you’d like to see included in future editions.

Free web form e-book

I released today my new book: “Better data quality from your web form - Effective international name and address Internet data collection”. The good news is that it is completely free to download and use, so go to http://www.grcdi.nl/book4.htm to download it. Spread the word!

Web forms are a source of immense and continuous frustration for many people as the forms almost universally fail to take any account of variations in personal name and addressing conventions used throughout the world, so that customers have to struggle to clear the hurdles placed in their way by the forms. Reports suggest that almost 9 out of 10 customers have problems when attempting to carry out online transactions, and the result is a huge loss of income from lost custom paired with the collection of very poor quality data.

This e-book (in Acrobat pdf format), which is free to download and use, attempts to fill the gap left by most works about usability by concentrating on the experience that your international customers have with your form, and how it affects them, their relationship with you and your data quality.

This has been done using many examples and without going into too much depth about the idiosyncrasies of international personal names and addresses, and avoids technical discussions – links to get more information are provided where appropriate in the text.

Any feedback is most welcome.
