New reference data table releases, quarter 2, 2010

We have released a number of updates of our reference tables this month:

Place name/postal codes: the new release of this file contains over 30 million place names/postal code combination records, collected by analysing over 90 million real world data records.

Address elements: the new release contains over 439000 address element strings for world addresses.

Job titles: the new release contains almost 90000 common job titles.

Given names: the new release contains almost 128000 given names.

Global Sourcebook for Name and Address Data Management - new version released!

A new version of The Global Sourcebook for Name and Address Data Management has been released today, 3rd November 2009. �

We have put an enormous amount of work into creating more content (now over 1500 pages) and making the resource more accessible than ever before � if you haven�t updated your version for a while it�s worth checking for the main changes at http://www.grcdi.nl/book2.htm .� We�re working to make the Global Sourcebook, more than ever, the only resource you�ll need for your international data management information. �

New version of our place names/postal codes file released.

Version 2010-1-1 of our settlements/postal codes file has been released.

The file now contains over 29.8 million records and almost 97.5% of these have corrected upper- and mixed-case versions.�We have now analysed almost 89.5 million data records to create this file.� For this release we have continued to work on improving the internal accuracy and quality of the data. Highlights for this version are:

We now have over 95% coverage also for Guatemala
We have done maintenance work on the data from Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Morocco, Romania, Taiwan, Venezuela and Western Sahara.

I released today my new book: “Better data quality from your web form - Effective international name and address Internet data collection�. The good news is that it is completely free to download and use, so go to http://www.grcdi.nl/book4.htm to download it. Spread the word!

Web forms are a source of immense and continuous frustration for many people as the forms almost universally fail to take any account of variations in personal name and addressing conventions used throughout the world, so that customers have to struggle to clear the hurdles placed in their way by the forms. Reports suggest that almost 9 out of 10 customers have problems when attempting to carry out online transactions, and the result is a huge loss of income from lost custom paired with the collection of very poor quality data.

This e-book (in Acrobat pdf format), which is free to download and use, attempts to fill the gap left by most works about usability by concentrating on the experience that your international customers have with your form, and how it affects them, their relationship with you and your data quality.

This has been done using many examples and without going into too much depth about the idiosyncrasies of international personal names and addresses, and avoids technical discussions � links to get more information are provided where appropriate in the text.
