The national language is English . The Dominican English dialect is spoken. 96% of the population speak Lesser Antillean Creole French
. An estimated 70% of the population speak no other language. Standard French is understood by no more than 10% of the population.
Women often use both their maiden name and their husband’s name in that order in double-barrelled form after marriage.
