Payment gateway - An application (sometimes based on the Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) protocol) designed to securely support financial transactions from web-based merchants. Its functions include authorization, payment capture, authorization reversal, credit, and settlement transactions. Transaction processing is often integrated into fulfillment processes for product delivery.
