logical access, physical access - Logical access controls refer to the policies, procedures and technical controls used in computer information systems. Physical access controls are used to control physical access; for example, the way that a lock controls access to a building or a room.

Information Security and physical security are often administered separately in an organization but the requirements from an architectural perspective are potentially identical, even to varied risks, and leveled authentication or assurance levels.

Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) establishes a requirement for a common identification credential for government employees and contractors for both logical and physical access to government resources.
