Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) - A database management system (DBMS) based on relational theory. Most modern Database Management Systems (Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server) are relational databases. These databases support a standard language - SQL (Structured Query Language).

RDBMS - Acronym for relational database management system (DBMS) - a database management system (DBMS) whose logical constructs are derived from the relational model of data. Most relational database management systems available are based on the SQL database language and have the table as their principal logical construct.

RDBMS - [database structures] Acronym for relational database management system (DBMS). A type of database in which data is organized across one or more tables. Tables are associated with each other through common fields called keys. In contrast to other database structures, an RDBMS requires few assumptions about how data is related or how it will be extracted from the database.

Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) - Short for Relational database management system (DBMS), it is a system used to store, process and manage data arranged in relational tables. Such a database is organized and accessed according to the relationships between data values. A database with tables for student, finance and human resources contains relationships among those tables. A student can be an employee. Refer SQL for more information.

relational database management system (RDBMS) - A relational database management system (RDBMS) is a program that lets you create, update, and administer a relational database. Most commercial RDBMS's use the Structured Query Language (SQL) to access the database, although SQL was invented after the development of the relational model and is not necessary for its use.

The leading RDBMS products are Oracle, IBM's DB2 and Microsoft's SQL Server. Despite repeated challenges by competing technologies, as well as the claim by some experts that no current RDBMS has fully implemented relational principles, the majority of new corporate databases are still being created and managed with an RDBMS.

Relational database management system (RDBMS) - A type of database that stores data in a structure consisting of one or more tables of rows and columns, which may be interconnected with each other through common fields. A row corresponds to a record (tuple); columns correspond to attributes (fields) in the record. Typically use Structured Query Language (SQL) for data definition, data management, and data access and retrieval.
