1) A method used to reorder display or output records in a specific order.

2) A data structure of pointers used to provide rapid, random access to rows in the table.

Index - An index is a data structure associated with a table that is logically ordered by the values of a key. It improves database performance and access speed. Indexes are usually created for columns that are accessed regularly, and where response time is important.
