Null Value - definitions

Null Value - A special type of value for a field in a data record. A null value indicates that the value for that field is missing, unknown, not yet know, or inapplicable.It is used in place of a zero, which would not be accurate, because zero is a value.

null value - [spatial statistics (use for geostatistics)] The absence of a recorded value for a field. A null value differs from a value of zero in that zero may represent the measure of an attribute, while a null value indicates that no measurement has been taken.
