Object - In a Data Modeling context, aperson, place, thing, or concept that has characteristics of interest to an environment. In the context of an Object-Oriented system, an object is an entity that combines descriptions of data and behavior.

object

(1) [data models] In GIS, a digital representation of a spatial or nonspatial entity. Objects usually belong to a class of objects with common attribute values and behaviors.

(2) [programming] In object-oriented programming, an instance of the data structure and behavior defined by a class.

(3) [software] In computing, a piece of software that performs a specific task and is controlled by another piece of software, called a client. For example, an object is often the interface by which an application program accesses an operating system and other services.
