Though peaceful, the area to the north and east of the Dnestr River is controlled by rebel Russian and Gargauz minorities. Peace is kept by a peace-keeping force of Moldavans, Russians and Transdniestrians.

Moldova - Languages

The official language, Romanian External, is spoken by some 59% of the population. There are some 20 000 Belorussian-speakers; 361 000 Bulgarian External-speakers; 1 859 Crimean Turkish-speakers; 173 000 Gargauz External-speakers; 7 000 German-speakers; 562 000 Russian-speakers; 12 000 Balkan Romani External-speakers and 600 000 Ukrainian-speakers.

Postal codes (Codul Poştal) consist of a block of 4 digits. The first two digits are the routing area and code, the final two the delivery office and code. Codes can cover a single building or range of buildings, or a complete settlements.
